Smoke Detectors and active stove-guards - the basic difference

Smoke detectors save lives. Especially when people are sleeping, it is mostly too late, when they notice that the home is on fire and their life is in danger. The warning signal of the smoke detector wakes them up and warns "Your home is on fire, now save at least your life". The contribution of smoke detectors against property damage is secondary though: Neither do they call the fire department nor do the actively contribute to firefighting.

It happens every day in kitchens: You want to fry meat, provide a pan on the stove and put fat or oil into it. Once the fat or oil has reached a certain temperature, the meat is added.
Also this happens frequently: The phone rings or the doorbell, you go to the phone or door and leave the pan alone. Few minutes later the fat or oil in the pan ignites and creates a growing flame.
